WRITING
From long, ponderous prose set in far away fantasy lands to compelling literary reportage to sardonic media reviews to technical writing to straight journalism, I continue to write for purpose and pleasure. Here are a few examples.
VIDEO
On this page, you will find various samples of work created for various purposes. There are videos that were created for Ringling College of Art and Design's Communication Strategies department, freelance work, charitable and pro-social work, personal projects, music videos, and more.
Creating Excitement
Ringling College of Art and Design
Admissions Sizzle
In this Addy Award winning sizzle video, the goal was to create an upbeat, fast paced vertical slice of the Ringling College experience for potential students. This video had to work both as an online deliverable as well as an in person warmup for Ringling recruiters who were visiting high school campuses.
Aiming in New Directions
Ringling VR Major Launch Video
Ringling launched the first BFA in Virtual Reality. The goal was to create a two minute web video that would demonstrate the inaugural class's enthusiasm for the major while defining and establishing it as a distinct, separate entity from the school's Game Art program.
Local and Healthy
Crop Juice
Crop Juice asked for help with creating a five minute video that could exist both as biographical and promotional. Their product is expensive, the goal was to show why in order to counter potential customer trepidation. Crop Juice has become very successful locally, and is about to open a fourth location.
Sugar, and natural, high
The Flavor Run
The goal with this video was to capture the fun and excitement of the event while not allowing the contents of millions of powdered sugar packets destroy my fragile gear! No cameras were harmed while filming the flavor run.
Homage? Pastiche? Satire?
Others May Fall - All Night
My music videos have turned Others May Fall into video game characters and into super heroes. For this video, the band wanted something a bit less bizarre - to pay homage to the hip hop videos of the late 80s. So we deconstructed a handful of those videos and combined that with some live performance footage.
Symphonic Nerdism
The Miami Symphony Orchestra plays The Legend of Zelda
In this short featurette, I attempt to capture the reverence of the Miami Symphony Orchestra as they play a stunningly moving suite of music from Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series. Yes, the music is undeniably gorgeous, but it was also important to capture the significance to the performers.
Getting Personal
The New 8-bit Heroes Trailer
This is the trailer for what began as a fun vanity project, but quickly became a feature length documentary about the value of childhood ambitions and the unexpected consequences of injecting them into our adult lives. The film toured festivals internationally, won awards, and ultimately ended up on Amazon. You can watch it here.
A film about a blog.
Caster's Blog, Act 1
Directed by creative partner Austin McKinley, I was cinematographer for the first Manasota Films project. For a microbudget film, this project had the additional challenge of trying to make an adaptation of the novelization of a fake blog interesting to watch in cinematic form.
