WRITING
From long, ponderous prose set in far away fantasy lands to compelling literary reportage to sardonic media reviews to technical writing to straight journalism, I continue to write for purpose and pleasure. Here are a few examples.
VOICE WORK
Half a lifetime ago when I was weighing my potential path of study in college, I seriously considered a career in radio. Long before podcasts were common, I was recording dramatic readings of fiction and doing the occasional commercial voice over project. Most recently, I've been literally lending my voice to clients such as Den of Geek and Sharecare Global. Here are a few examples of recent voice work.
Riot Force
After a few years of helping me bring my childhood vision to life with The New 8-bit Heroes, I was happy to lend my talents to Austin McKinley's in the form of his graphic novel Riot Force.
Project Frontier
Acting as Developer Relations Manager for Omni Creator Products on their flagship Project Frontier put me as the middle man between the engineering team and those creating user generated content. I got to code, I got to teach, and every once in a while, I got to do something cool that featured my other talents such as this VO for their first public playtest.
What is a bit?
In the film The New 8-bit Heroes, there are several animated sequences that explain in greater detail some of the complexities of how the older game consoles actually worked. This is one of those sequences. The goal was to be both informative and comical with a subtle tone of frustrating sarcasm.
Den of Geek - Monster Madness
As part of Den of Geek's March "Monster" madness series, the goal was to straddle the line between the dramatic intonation of a movie trailer with the spontaneous enthusiasm of a sports commentator.
Dramatic Reading
A continuing series for my current larger creative project, this is a dramatic reading of the first chapter of the Mystic Searches novelization.
Online Instruction
This is a scripted first tutorial for NESmaker users. In the last three years, over a hundred hours of tutorials have been created - some have been in this dry, straight, written manner, while others have shown more character as I riffed and ad-libbed throughout.
Commercial VO
At around the 30 second mark, I give the end tag for this Insurance Defender commercial. The client had a microbudget for this commercial, which I also produced.
